Practice

A solo digital forensics practice run by a Private Investigator in Oregon.

Every matter is handled the same way: isolate the original, prove the copy is identical, then analyze the copy.

Bit-by-Bit Forensics works on criminal defense and civil matters. All work is done on-site in Oregon, so the chain of custody stays with one person from first contact to final report.

Reports explain what was done and what the data shows. They also state what the data does not show.

Standards

  • Write-blocked acquisition. Source media is never written to.
  • SHA-256 verification. Calculated at acquisition and again before analysis.
  • Chain-of-custody log. Kept from the first touch of every item.
  • Documented method. Tools and steps are recorded so another examiner can repeat them.
